A .pdf file may optionally be included, especially if concerns about the legibility of the fonts used in the text file arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should submit your contribution to <a href=\"mailto:silva.iaponicarum.quarterly@gmail.com\">silva.iaponicarum.quarterly@gmail.com<\/a>, if responding to the open <em>Silva Iaponicarum<\/em> Call For Papers, or to the respective content editor(s) of the issue if responding to a special issue Call For Papers.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nag-1\"><strong>[2] STRUCTURE OF THE PAPER<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following elements and their ordering should be observed when preparing manuscripts contributed to <em>Silva<\/em> <em>Iaponicarum<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the full title of the manuscript<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the names of all authors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>authors&#8217; affiliation, ORCID and&nbsp;current e-mail address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the abstract in English (100\u2013150 words), including the hypothesis\/goal of the paper, a summary of its content, and conclusions&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>keywords (4\u20136)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(optional) acknowledgements&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The length of the paper should be from&nbsp;<strong>3,000 to 10,000 words<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>English&nbsp;<\/strong>and from<strong>&nbsp;8,000 to 25,000 characters<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Japanese<\/strong>, excluding the abstract and references.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main<strong> body of the paper<\/strong> <strong>should contain the following parts, in the following order<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foreword\/Introduction (heading not numbered)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Numbered sections<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conclusions\/Endnote (heading not numbered)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abbreviations (if applicable)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>References&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nag-2\"><strong>[3] FORMATTING GUIDELINES<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>page size:: A5<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>margins (all): 18mm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>basic font: 10,5 Times New Roman (MS \u660e\u671d)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>footnote font: 8 Times New Roman (MS \u660e\u671d)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>single spaces between lines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>paragraph alignment &nbsp; &nbsp; : justified<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no indents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no additional spaces between paragraphs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no space between a paragraph and section title<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>language: English or Japanese<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>spelling conventions for English: American spelling is recommended, but British spelling is also permitted. Spelling consistency with the chosen system maintained throughout the paper needs, however, to be observed. Citations retain their original spelling&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>recommended romanization systems: variant Hepburn (with diacritics and&nbsp;&lt;\u3093&gt; transliterated as &lt;m&gt; before &lt;p&gt;, &lt;b&gt; and &lt;m&gt;) for Japanese; toneless pinyin for Chinese; McCune-Reischauer for Korean<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A note on style: in order to maintain a neutral and objective tone, you are encouraged to keep first-person expressions and self-referencing to a minimum. In case you do use first-person pronouns, they should be singular unless the paper is co-authored. Do not use plural pronouns (\u201cwe\u201d) for the purpose of self-referencing an individual author.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nag-3\"><strong>[4] TYPESETTING RECOMMENDATIONS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>emphasis \u2013 no spaced-out text, recommended italics;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>quotes: a short quotation (up to three consecutive lines) can be put it in the main text, always in the inverted commas; longer ones should be extracted from the main text (size 11, line spacing 1); no indentation in the new line of the main text after such quotes;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>headings and subheadings should be boldfaced;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bibliographic references should be included in the text, not in footnotes;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>page range should be marked with \u201cen dash\u201d (\u2013), not with a hyphen (-), e.g. \u201c(McKanzie 1998: 11\u201334)\u201d; the same rule should be used in indicating a numerical range, e.g. \u201cin years 1867\u20131899\u201d;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>illustrations\/photographs\/figures \u2013 all illustrations (JPG, TIF \u2013 at least 300 dpi) should be numbered and provided with appropriate captions, i.e. a short description of photo content, source and author of the illustration;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tables, charts etc. should be numbered, titled and, if applicable, involve information about their source.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When supplementing illustrations, photographs and other materials from outside of the public domain, be sure to provide a written consent for reproducing these materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vocabulary items or phrases in foreign languages, including specialistic terms in Japanese, should be put in italics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>translatological insights concerning the <em>mono-no na<\/em> variety of classical <em>waka<\/em> poetry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Italics may also be used for emphasis and for citing titles. In the latter case, all content words of the title should be capitalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>And when one leaves binary logic behind, one also gets something called <em>queer<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Haruki Murakami\u2019s short story <em>The Folklore of Our Times<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Double inverted commas may be used for figurative\/non-literal language and should be used when citing outside sources (on which cf. [6] IN-TEXT CITATIONS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Homosexuality in the novel is also restricted to adolescence, never addressing homosexual relationships between adult men, and pathologized, using words such as \u201cabnormal\u201d, \u201csick\u201d and so on.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This confidence is brilliantly spotted by Matsui (1975: 104) in her thesis on S\u014dseki as a critic of English literature: \u201cIt was a fundamental attitude of S\u014dseki the critic to place absolute confidence in his own ability and conduct all argument from there\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Single inverted commas are reserved for the meta-language translations of fragments in a foreign language, including literal translations of non-English titles of literary works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>verbs with stem-final vowel such as \u2018to pray\u2019 or \u2018to think\u2019 form a separate subgroup<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>S\u014dseki\u2019s newly gained self-confidence in his reading of English literature gave rise to the series of lectures known as <em>Eibungaku Keishikiron <\/em>(\u2018On the form of English literature\u2019, 1903)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nag-4\"><strong>[5] REFERENCES, GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If listing a publication with a title in a language other than English, German, French or Spanish, an English approximation of the title should be provided in square brackets following the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Publications in writing systems other than the Latin alphabet should be listed in a romanized version followed by the original notation of the relevant elements. Elements which would be identical in both romanized and original notations, such as the year of publication or page numbers, are redundant and should be omitted from the original notation. Consequently, the comma, as a rule, does not apply when listing Japanese (or other East Asian) authors of Japanese (or other East Asian) publications.
